About the Role

The Senior Applied Scientist in the Generative AI Innovation Center works with AWS customers to design and implement generative AI solutions for real-world business challenges. They collaborate with scientists and architects, directly interact with customers to understand problems and guide implementation, and help optimize solutions through model selection and tuning.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI/ML scientists and architects to research, design, develop, and evaluate generative AI solutions
• Interact with customers directly to understand business problems and guide implementation of generative AI solutions
• Help customers optimize solutions through model selection, training, tuning, distillation, and hardware optimization
• Provide customer and market feedback to product and engineering teams to define product direction

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• PhD in operations research, applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, or equivalent, or PhD and 5+ years in a quantitative field
• 5+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving)
• Experience with deep learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, MxNet
• 5+ years of building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application

Nice to Have:

• Experience with training and deploying machine learning systems to solve large-scale optimizations
• Experience in communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience
• Experience identifying and resolving complex issues
• Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity
• Experience with open source tools and resources
