About the Role

The Senior Applied Scientist will lead the development and implementation of Generative AI algorithms and models for supervised fine-tuning, advancing Large Language Models (LLMs) to handle Amazon-scale use cases. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, designing experiments, and mentoring junior scientists while driving multi-year GenAI technology development.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve complex problems in GenAI
• Design and execute experiments to evaluate algorithm and model performance
• Think big about multi-year GenAI development and identify new application opportunities
• Communicate results and insights to technical and non-technical audiences
• Mentor and guide junior scientists and engineers

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• PhD or Master's degree with 5+ years of applied research experience
• 4+ years of building machine learning models for business applications
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and TensorFlow

Nice to Have:

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field with focus on GenAI and reinforcement learning
• Experience developing algorithms for supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning through human feedback
• Strong Python skills and experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch
• Experience with patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences
