About the Role

Research Internship at Microsoft's Applied Sciences group focusing on neural rendering and generative 3D/4D for digital humans and interactive characters. The role involves conducting original research, building prototypes, and contributing to cutting-edge projects in neural scene representations, generative 3D/4D, digital human animation, and interactive character intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research and build prototypes in neural rendering & scene representations
  • Work on generative 3D/4D methods including diffusion/score-based approaches
  • Develop digital human & facial animation systems with speech/audio-driven capabilities
  • Design datasets and evaluation protocols with benchmarking against public/internal evaluations
  • Optimize for fidelity, robustness, or efficiency depending on project goals

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Currently enrolled in Master's or Ph.D. program in CS, EE, Applied Math or related field
  • Focus in vision/graphics/ML within academic program
  • Physically located at Microsoft worksite for internship duration
  • Submit minimum of two reference letters, cover letter, and relevant work/research samples

Nice to Have:

  • Hands-on experience with deep learning (PyTorch) and familiarity with diffusion/transformers
  • Proficient programming skills in Python and/or C++ with clear technical communication
  • Publications in top conferences (CVPR, ICCV, SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS, etc.)
  • Depth in neural rendering, Gaussian splatting, NeRF-style models, generative 3D/4D
  • Experience with scalable training, dataset curation, and evaluation techniques
