About the Role

Principal Applied Scientist role at Microsoft developing the Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud (IC3) to enhance real-time conversation products like Teams. Responsibilities include designing and building end-to-end ML systems for human-human and human-AI interactions, developing ML pipelines, and shipping production-grade code. Requires 6+ years of ML development experience and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI researchers and audio signal processing experts to design and build end-to-end ML systems
• Design and develop ML pipelines involving data cleaning, feature engineering, model training, and evaluation
• Work across the product lifecycle from prototyping to shipping production-grade code optimized for performance and memory
• Update deployed models based on A/B testing
• Remain up to date with latest advancements, trends and research and contribute towards IP portfolio

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience OR equivalent experience
• 6+ years of experience in development/deployment of machine learning algorithms
• At least 1 year of experience managing or mentoring technical contributors
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to explain complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Nice to Have:

• Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years related experience OR equivalent experience
• Experience contributing code to production systems or shipped products
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining production-grade ML pipelines
• Domain specific experience in Audio Digital Signal Processing
