About the Role

Senior Research Scientist role at AWS Center for Quantum Computing focusing on materials simulations and characterization to improve superconducting quantum processors. Combines computational modeling and experimental techniques to study material defects affecting qubit performance. Requires PhD and expertise in numerical simulations and materials science.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise on integrated experimental and computational studies of materials defects
• Develop and use computational tools for large-scale simulations of disordered structures
• Develop and implement multi-technique materials characterization workflows for thin films and devices
• Identify material properties as reliable proxies for superconducting resonator and qubit performance
• Communicate findings to team and publish in scientific journals when appropriate

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• PhD in physics, applied physics, materials science, or related field
• Expertise in numerical simulations and characterization of materials
• Demonstrated track record of original, impactful work in relevant areas
• Proficient in scientific programming environment (Python, Julia, MATLAB, Mathematica)

Nice to Have:

• Experience developing physics-based models for structure-property-function relationships
• Research experience with disorder and defects
• Experience modeling amorphous materials
• Experience using high-performance computing systems (HPC)
• Experience using machine learning and AI frameworks
• Familiarity with superconducting materials and quantum computing circuits
