About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer - Night oversees critical data center operations, acting as the primary escalation point for facilities issues and managing electrical/mechanical equipment. They lead a team of technicians, perform root cause analysis, and ensure 99.999% uptime for AWS infrastructure. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, project management, and maintaining safety standards during night shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, and cooling equipment
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
  • Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
  • Create and deploy standard practices for technicians and vendor teams
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, coordinating with engineering and finance teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
  • 4+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 4+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
  • Willingness to work night shifts and respond to emergency calls outside normal hours

Nice to Have:

  • 5+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience leading a team
