About the Role
The Data Center Chief Engineer - Night oversees critical data center operations, acting as the primary escalation point for facilities issues and managing electrical/mechanical equipment. They lead a team of technicians, perform root cause analysis, and ensure 99.999% uptime for AWS infrastructure. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, project management, and maintaining safety standards during night shifts.Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary escalation point for facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, and cooling equipment
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
- Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
- Create and deploy standard practices for technicians and vendor teams
- Manage projects from conception to completion, coordinating with engineering and finance teams
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
- 4+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
- 4+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
- Willingness to work night shifts and respond to emergency calls outside normal hours
Nice to Have:
- 5+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree
- Experience leading a team
