About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures 100% availability of critical MEP infrastructure in AWS data centers. They oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, perform maintenance, and act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues. This role involves leading technicians, managing projects, and troubleshooting to maintain uptime above 99.999%.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee operation of critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, and chillers
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for operations teams and assist in facility build-outs or efficiency projects
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering, automation, and finance teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience leading a team
