About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer oversees critical infrastructure operations at AWS data centers, ensuring high availability and reliability. Responsibilities include managing facility systems, leading technical teams, and performing root cause analysis. This role requires hands-on troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical equipment to maintain 99.999% uptime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for facilities issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, and chillers
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
  • Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
  • Create and deploy standard practices for operations teams and manage projects from conception to completion
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and establish performance benchmarks for facility operations

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Technical training or degree in relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience leading a team
