About the Role
The Data Center Chief Engineer oversees critical infrastructure operations in AWS data centers, acting as the primary escalation point for facilities issues and managing electrical/mechanical systems. They perform root cause analysis, train technicians, and implement projects to optimize safety, reliability, and efficiency while ensuring 99.999% uptime.Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems operations
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
- Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
- Create and deploy new standard practices for operations teams and technicians
- Work with IT managers to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant performance
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment
- Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
- Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
Nice to Have:
- 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment and engineering documentation
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, NFPA, NEC, OSHA
- Experience in Data Center Engineering Operations with deep understanding of electrical/mechanical infrastructure
