About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures 100% availability of critical MEP infrastructure in AWS data centers. They oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, perform maintenance, and act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues. This role involves troubleshooting, training technicians, and managing projects to optimize safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, and chillers
• Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
• Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
• Create and deploy new standard practices for operations and vendor support teams
• Manage projects from conception to completion, including coordination with external groups

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• 3+ years of relevant technical position, or 2+ years of professional or military experience
• 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
• 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
• Ability to work outside normal hours for maintenance and emergency response

Nice to Have:

• 3+ years of construction or project management experience
• Operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent
• Experience in construction or project management
