About the Role
The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures 100% availability of critical MEP infrastructure in AWS data centers. They oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, perform maintenance, and act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues. This role involves troubleshooting, training technicians, and managing projects to optimize safety and efficiency.Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, and chillers
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
- Create and deploy new standard practices for operations and vendor support teams
- Manage projects from conception to completion, including coordination with external groups
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- 3+ years of relevant technical position, or 2+ years of professional or military experience
- 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
- 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
- Ability to work outside normal hours for maintenance and emergency response
Nice to Have:
- 3+ years of construction or project management experience
- Operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent
- Experience in construction or project management
