About the Role
The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures 100% availability of critical MEP infrastructure in AWS data centers. They oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, perform maintenance, and act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues. This role involves leading technicians, managing projects, and ensuring safety and efficiency.Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, chillers, and building monitoring
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
- Create and deploy new standard practices for operations teams and assist in facility build-outs or efficiency projects
- Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on facility operations
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
- 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
- 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
Nice to Have:
- 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience leading a team
