The Computer Vision/Machine Learning Research Scientist (Spatial AI) role at Meta's Reality Labs involves developing cutting-edge AI technologies for spatial and contextual understanding, focusing on areas like vision-language models and 3D reconstruction. Responsibilities include designing novel algorithms, benchmarking new capabilities, and leading multidisciplinary teams to advance AI for immersive experiences such as VR and AR.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and development of novel machine learning algorithms for vision-language models, agentic AI, 3D reconstruction, depth estimation, and semantic segmentation
  • Define, build, and benchmark new capabilities for next-generation AI
  • Communicate cross-functionally and drive team goals and technical direction
  • Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and research teams to develop technologies from exploration to production

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Natural Language Understanding, or equivalent practical experience
  • Significant industry experience in relevant areas
  • Leadership experience driving high-risk, high-reward projects, including managing research scientists and communicating to leadership
  • Proven track record with grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications at conferences like CVPR, ICCV, or NeurIPS

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with distributed systems or on-device algorithm development
  • Experience communicating research for public audiences of peers
  • Significant industry experience in robotics-related research areas, such as large multimodal models or agentic AI
