About the Role

The AI Applied Scientist II role at Microsoft focuses on integrating cutting-edge AI technologies into products to enhance customer experience automation. Responsibilities include developing AI solutions, fine-tuning models, and ensuring ethical AI practices. This position requires collaboration across teams to translate research into impactful, production-ready applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Research and implement state-of-the-art AI models and techniques
• Fine-tune foundation models using domain-specific datasets
• Build rapid AI solution prototypes and contribute to production deployment
• Translate research into production-ready solutions and measure impact via A/B testing
• Ensure responsible AI practices throughout the development lifecycle

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field AND 2+ years experience OR Master's Degree AND 1+ year experience OR Doctorate OR equivalent experience
• 1+ years experience in developing and deploying live production systems
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years
• Experience in statistics, predictive analytics, or research

Nice to Have:

• Building RAGs and fine-tuning speech language models like Whisper, wav2vec2
• Understanding of SLU, ASR, TTS, NLP, NLU domains
• Experience with MLOps workflows including CI/CD, monitoring, and retraining pipelines
• Familiarity with modern LLMOps frameworks such as LangChain, PromptFlow
• 1+ years experience publishing in peer-reviewed venues or filing patents
